Time to dig out your boldest floral shirt, dainty flowery dress and everything in-between as Floral Thursday is back tomorrow and ready to raise funds for the Greenfingers charity.

Thursday at Glee is now more commonly known as Floral Thursday, a special day when the industry comes together to raise funds for the Greenfingers Charity by donning their best floral get-up. Whether it’s clashing floral brights, giant flowerpot men outfits or teams with the biggest contingent of floral suits, dresses, hats, shirts or t-shirts, each year Floral Thursday gains more and more traction. This year the charity is hoping that even more will arrive at the show in their floral best. In fact, the quest for the world record attempt at the most ‘floral dressed’ in one place continues – can you help make it a reality?

Upon arrival at Glee on Floral Thursday look out for the Greenfingers raffle ticket sellers in the atrium, where a host of top prizes are up for grabs. By digging deep, buying some raffle tickets or popping a few coins, digitally or otherwise, in the fundraising buckets you will not only help make this year’s event the best yet, but you will be contributing to another amazing year of fundraising for the charity.

Day Three opening times – see you there!

The final day of Glee 2025 takes place tomorrow (Thursday). Opening times: 9am to 4pm. Register by clicking here.

It was champagne all round at Glee on Tuesday as Henry Bell celebrated its 200th anniversary.

Managing director Thomas Lee and finance director Carol Foster hosted a gathering with customers and friends to recognise the impressive milestone in British manufacturing.

Based in Grantham, this flourishing family firm is a leading name in the wild bird care market and flying the flag for the Henry Bell brand of specialist bird and animal feed and feeders.

New this year is the Sterling 3-1 Squirrel Proof feeder in black to attract birds to suet, seed and peanuts in one feeder while keeping food safe from larger birds and squirrels.

Taylors Bulbs will be returning to Glee 2025 with their trademark GIANT loose bulbs. On offer for delivery this autumn will be giant Alliums, Eremurus and football sized 40/42 Amaryllis bulbs plus rare and unusual pink Camassia – these are not usually available in sufficient quantity to offer for retail so make sure you catch them while you can.

Taylors National Accounts/Marketing Manager Ian Clark says: “We have had emails sent in from consumers expressing their joy from our giant Amaryllis in previous years. It is quite typical for them to produce 3 or 4 flowers per bulb and give several flushes of flowers.

"The availability of these giant size bulbs is dependant on harvest each year so we can only usually offer a limited amount, and we always sell out quickly so get them while you can!”

Day two at Glee: Product deep dives and a fond farewell
Stand 11E51-F50

After an outstanding year following Glee 2024, Meadow View Stone is back at Glee 2025 with more innovation, impactful merchandising and exciting new products for the season ahead..

Day two at Glee saw a steady stream of engaged visitors making the most of their time with Meadow View Stone’s experienced sales team.

Many conversations honed in on the Promotional Packs, where buyers were quick to recognise the commercial benefits of offering high-quality aggregate at a sharper price point. The Spanish Gold range drew interest for its rich, warm tones – ideal for both contemporary and traditional garden schemes, while the Slender Feature Stones impressed with their versatility for edging and statement features.

Beyond product discussions, the stand was also the scene for a more personal moment. Chris Newland, a well-known and much-respected member of the team, is retiring after years of building trusted relationships across his area. Chris is on the stand throughout the show to say goodbye to his long-standing customers.

“It’s been a privilege to work with such loyal customers and a fantastic team,” said Chris. “The garden centre industry is a close-knit community and I’ve been lucky to be part of it for so many years.”

Taking over the territory is Tomas Naruševičius, who’s already making his mark with customers and continuing Meadow View Stone’s commitment to service and support.

Managing Director Sarah Hill added: “Chris has been a huge part of Meadow View Stone’s success story. His knowledge, dedication and the relationships he’s built have left a lasting legacy. We wish him the very best in his retirement and we are confident Tomas will continue to uphold the high standards our customers have come to expect.”

With meaningful conversations, strong interest in new ranges and a chance to celebrate valued colleagues, day two proved that Glee is as much about people as it is about products. Visit the Meadow View Stone – stand 11E51-F50.

We’re giving visitors an exclusive teaser of our ambitious 2026 integrated brand campaign, including the brand’s latest TV ad, which will see Miracle-Gro® step up to inspire gardeners like never before.

The campaign builds on the success of 2025’s Touch Grass and It All Starts in the Garden activations, which saw us partner with Jo Whiley and Jordan Nobbs to encourage people to connect with their outdoor spaces in new ways.

With a focus on ease, education, and efficacy, it will empower gardeners—whether beginners or seasoned experts—to create outdoor spaces they can truly be proud of.

The media investment behind this campaign is more substantial than any other in the past five years, with over £2M dedicated to reaching new audiences and fuelling category growth. Soho Sumex Tools is using Glee as a vehicle to connect with garden centre chains, online retailers and buying groups, to promote its ranges, all of which can be customer branded.

New for this year, and launched at Glee, is The Eden range of garden hand tools, gloves and kneelers but its Wall Mounted Tool Storage System is also generating interest.

For more than 15 years Soho Sumex has been supplying some of the largest diy retailers but now feels the time is right to expand into the garden market.

"Everything we do can be customer branded - it's our core business. We have been supplying gardening products in other countries but not in the UK where we have focused more on diy tools. But this is an area we want to explore," said Lisa Bartell, Business Development Manager.

The breadth of the Eden range allows Sumex Soho Tools to offer every price point and a 'good, better, best' product while the flexible Wall Mounted Tool Storage System comes in different components to suit customer needs whether using in a garage, shed or outbuilding.

Christine Chen, Company Owner said as Sumex Soho Tools is already established within the diy market, she felt that expanding into the garden retail sector was a natural progression and its experience would especially suit those businesses looking for slightly higher volumes.

It’s been a busy start to Glee, and Primeur’s ever-evolving doormat offering is proving to be a real talking point for retailers eager to discover fresh designs and genuine innovation in a category that has long remained static.

Expanding the Bree Merryn collection

On day two, the creativity keeps flowing. The bestselling Bree Merryn collaboration expands once more, with exclusive new designs and larger formats (50 x 75cm) now available across washable printed mats, starting with four animal-inspired favourites – highland cows, hares, donkeys and hedgehogs. For those looking for a real statement piece, luxury doormats in 50 x 120cm have been unveiled, featuring four standout new designs: Bees, Happy Highlands, Highland Huddle and ‘Special Branch’ with blue tits, robins and other beloved garden birds.

New interchangeable entryway concept

Elsewhere, Primeur has debuted an innovative rubber trellis entryway mat range with interchangeable coir inserts, a concept designed to offer consumers more choice while delivering retailers strong repeat-sales potential. Kicking off with 12 interchangeable coir designs, the range covers everything from seasonal favourites for autumn and spring, to playful boots, bees, florals and a variety of welcoming motifs.

Fresh coir and barrier mat designs

New coir designs also include a charming Highland Cow, a cheerful ‘Welcome’ donkey, plus two half-moon formats featuring the Highland Cow and a bee-inspired design. Meanwhile, the designer printed coir collection sees fresh additions, with new designs including a happy donkey and cuddly cow.

Merchandising made simple

At Glee Burgon & Ball is launching the first phase of a major review of its RHS-endorsed cutting ranges. The update clearly communicates the benefits of buying the tools, and makes the range easy to navigate for retailer and shopper alike. Three new tools are joining the line-up too!

Burgon & Ball offers the only cutting tools endorsed by the RHS, that trusted name that gardeners look for. The endorsement is an assurance of quality and good   design.

The new packaging has been designed with garden centre shoppers in mind, so as well as being functional, the overall look and feel is elegant, simple, and very appealing. Each tool’s unique features are clearly highlighted to help the shopper find the right tool for the task they’re tackling.

To make ranging and product choice even easier, the use of colour in packaging and tool handles helps signpost the various sub-ranges, such as the essential must-have items, and the high-specification professional tools.

Moving away from fully enclosed blister packs, the new look features a small plastic hood covering the blades, slashing the plastic used in packaging by over 50%. Exposing the handles has the added benefit of allowing the shopper to try the tool’s weight, size and movement before buying.

This autumn also sees three new cutting tools join the line-up, including a finger micro snip for precise cutting that’s ideal for herb harvesting. In addition, all-metal flower scissors are perfect for harvesting cut flowers and for floristry.

At the other end of the scale, a new ratchet secateur offers powerful cuts and easier everyday cutting. The exceptional cutting power and ease of use of this design is believed to position it as best ratchet secateur on the market.

Be the first to see this exciting new version of Burgon & Ball’s flagship cutting tool range on stand 9B61-D60.

Unveiled yesterday during the first day of Glee 2025, Johnsons Lawn Seed’s latest innovation, Meadow in a Tray, has already generated a superb response from visitors.

This first-of-its-kind product offers retailers and consumers a ready-to-plant wildflower solution that combines ease of use with instant impact, making it one of the most talked-about launches of the show so far.

Each tray contains 104 wildflower plug plants across eight carefully chosen UK native species, including Bird’s-foot Trefoil, Black Knapweed, Black Medick, Cowslip, Lady’s Bedstraw, Oxeye Daisy, Red Campion and Selfheal. Designed to establish quickly and flourish with minimal effort, Meadow in a Tray allows gardeners to transform borders, edges and meadows into vibrant, pollinator-friendly habitats without the need to sow seed.

Building on its decades-long expertise in wildflower production, Johnsons Lawn Seed has already delivered proven success with much-loved wildflower products such as Nature’s Lawn, Celebration Tins and Country Meadow. Meadow in a Tray represents a bold new step, meeting growing consumer demand for simple and effective ways to boost biodiversity.

Guy Jenkins, Consumer Manager at Johnsons Lawn Seed, commented: “The response at Glee has been fantastic. We identified a gap in the market for wildflower plug plants, and Meadow in a Tray is clearly resonating with retailers and buyers. It offers a choice for consumers who want a straightforward, low-effort way to establish wildflowers with maximum impact. Every little helps when it comes to supporting pollinators, and this product makes it easier than ever.”

With higher success rates than seed, reliable distribution of plants, and a season-long display of blooms, Meadow in a Tray is already standing out as one of the highlights of this year’s show.

Garden centre buyers and retailers can see Meadow in a Tray in action at Glee 2025, Hall 11, Stand A61–B60, or visit www.johnsonslawnseed.com for more information regarding the existing product portfolio.

Peat-free made simple: what retailers should know now
Stand 10B62

Peat-free composts have caused divided opinions among growers and gardeners, but with the know-how – and the right product –  peat-free can deliver excellent results, while helping the industry move towards a more environmentally conscious future. Heart of Edens blend is designed to hold water more effectively than other peat-free alternatives...

Peat-free composts have caused divided opinions among growers and gardeners, but with the know-how – and the right product –  peat-free can deliver excellent results, while helping the industry move towards a more environmentally conscious future.

Opting for peat-free has many benefits. Peatlands are vital habitats and one of the worlds most effective carbon stores. Using peat in growing media not only negatively impacts these ecosystems, but also releases carbon back into the atmosphere, negatively impacting climate change. Switching to peat-free, is an easy way for gardeners and retailers to support more sustainable practices that protect biodiversity and reduce negative environmental impact.

If you choose to go peat-free it doesnt mean compromising the abundance in your garden—it simply calls for a few minor tweaks. Knowing when to water is first. Some peat-free mixes can dry out quickly, however, it's noted they can retain plenty of moisture below the surface. Heart of Edens blend is designed to hold water more effectively than other peat-free alternatives. We recommend checking 2–3cm down before reaching for the watering can, there could be more moisture than you think.

Second, by adding a thick layer of mulch on top of your peat-free compost it not only conserves water, it has other benefits too. Heart of Eden offers mulches to complement their peat-free compost in their product range - a super way to protect young plants, suppress weeds and retain moisture in beds, borders and pots.

Third, quality. Not all peat-free composts are created equal, which is why choosing a trusted blend matters. Heart of EdenPeat-Free Multipurpose Compost is tried, tested, and proven to provide reliable performance.

And finally, remember that nutrients in any compost will only last so long—typically six to eight weeks. Supplementing with a liquid feed at the right stage of growth gives plants the support they need to flourish.

For those keen to explore the products first-hand and discuss the nuances of successful peat-free growing, the Heart of Eden team will be on Stand 10B62 at Glee.

The Greenhouse Florentina is Biohort’s headline innovation for 2026 – a clever combination of a raised bed and greenhouse that makes gardening easier, more productive, and beautifully stylish.

Designed with both beginners and seasoned gardeners in mind, Florentina offers an ergonomic working height for back-friendly planting, while providing plenty of space for taller crops such as tomatoes. The robust 8 mm UV-resistant polycarbonate panels create an ideal microclimate, ensuring plants thrive in all weather conditions.

Thanks to its modular design, Florentina can be used as a complete set (raised bed plus greenhouse attachment) or retrofitted onto existing Biohort raised beds. The integrated sliding roof system, which can be upgraded with an automatic temperature-controlled opener, guarantees perfect ventilation even when you are away from home.

Available in two widths (1 m and 0.5 m) and in Biohort’s signature metallic dark grey or quartz grey, the Greenhouse Florentina blends seamlessly into any modern garden. Optional accessories such as trellis supports, irrigation systems, or pot holders make it even more versatile.

With Florentina, Biohort empowers garden lovers to grow more, harvest better, and enjoy gardening with ease — all while enhancing the look of their outdoor spaces.

Hortiwool Garden Pads for the eco-conscious gardener

Hanging baskets are a simple way to add vibrant colour and greenery to your garden, but keeping them thriving can be a challenge. Regular watering, fluctuating temperatures, and limited soil depth often make baskets prone to drying out and nutrient loss. That’s where Hortiwool comes in.

Made from 100% British wool, Hortiwool Garden Pads can be cut to size and used as natural hanging basket liners. Wool is an incredible material for this purpose. It holds up to 30% of its weight in water and releases it slowly, keeping soil consistently moist and reducing the need for constant watering. This makes it easier to maintain healthy plants even during warmer weather.

Beyond moisture retention, wool provides excellent insulation, helping to stabilise soil temperatures. Roots are protected from the cold in early spring and kept cooler in the heat of summer, giving your plants a better growing environment all year round.

As the wool gradually breaks down, it enriches the soil with nitrogen and other essential nutrients, acting as a slow-release natural fertiliser that supports stronger growth and more vibrant plants. Unlike synthetic liners, Hortiwool is fully compostable meaning nothing goes to waste. At the end of its life, it can simply be added to your compost heap or soil to continue feeding your garden.

Lightweight, versatile, and completely chemical-free, Hortiwool Garden Pads make an ideal sustainable alternative to traditional basket liners. They not only help your hanging baskets flourish but also care for the planet, one flower at a time.

SealStop crowned 2025 GIMA Innovators Seed Corn Fund winner

SealStop – the clever automatic shut-off valve for hosepipes  – has been announced as the winner of this year’s prestigious GIMA Innovators Seed Corn Fund. The team behind SealStop were officially handed the award earlier this morning (Tuesday 16th September) during the opening day of Glee 2025...

SealStop – the clever automatic shut-off valve for hosepipes  – has been announced as the winner of this year’s prestigious GIMA Innovators Seed Corn Fund. The team behind SealStop were officially handed the award earlier this morning (Tuesday 16th September) during the opening day of Glee 2025.

Born out of a simple frustration – forgotten hoses and flooded yards – SealStop is now helping households, gardeners, and smallholders across the UK make every drop count.  The clever device connects to a standard hosepipe using a quick-connect fitting. Simply place the hose into a trough, barrel or container and walk away. SealStop shuts off the flow at the right moment, preventing overflows and wasted water. With no need for timers, electronics or constant supervision, it’s a simple, reusable, British-made solution for smart water use.

Founder Isabelle Richardson said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have won the GIMA Innovators’ Seed Corn Fund, it’s a wonderful acknowledgement of why I created SealStop in the first place. I was tired of wasting water whenever life got in the way, so I developed a solution that gives people time back and encourages smarter water use, especially during dry spells when conservation is vital.

“This support will make a real difference, helping us grow faster, reach more people, and share the benefits of SealStop with the gardening community.”

Originally launched in the equestrian market, SealStop is now finding fans in gardens across the UK. Proudly manufactured just 45 minutes from York, it’s also the first in a growing range, with rainwater harvesting tools currently in development.

Vicky Nuttall, GIMA Director, commented: “It was a tough judging day as all the shortlisted entries had great merit and real commercial potential. It took us all day to decide on our eventual winner. SealStop stood out as a product that not only solves a problem that haunts gardeners and smallholders but also brings genuine environmental benefits. We are excited to support Isabelle and her team as they bring this innovation to a wider market.”

As the tenth recipient of the GIMA Innovators Seed Corn Fund, SealStop will receive an extensive prize package designed to help fast-track its growth. This includes free exhibition space at Glee, the UK’s leading garden retail trade show, alongside up to £4,000 of tailored support covering design, development, consultancy, manufacturing or marketing. The prize also offers a free half-page advert in the GIMA New Product Digest publication, twelve months of free GIMA membership, one year’s ACID (Anti Copying in Design) membership, and ongoing PR support.

The runners up for 2025 were Rootup Limited and SmartyPlants AI – both highly commended for their forward-thinking approaches to gardening innovation.  SmartyPlants is a discreet sensor that tracks your plant’s vital stats, translating them into simple care tips via a user-friendly app. With real-time alerts, it’s like your plant texting you when it needs attention. Rootup Limited develops innovative solutions for hydroponic growers and plant enthusiasts, combining practical engineering with sustainable design to improve efficiency, plant health, and yields.

Haxnicks are celebrating 30 years in business at Glee and on Day One there was a cake cutting ceremony on the Tildenet Gardenware stand (9G100).

Back in 1995 Damian Cardozo came to his first Glee with a prototype of his large bell cloche (Solar Bell). He made it using a washing machine converted into a lathe and the first orders enabled him to buy the moulding machine. "We got the reaction we wanted," said Damian.

To celebrate three decades of creating and introducing new gardening products with sustainability at the core, Damian cut a special anniversary cake on the first day of Glee.

"Some of the designs are now quite old, but we want people to know that we did actually create them and are still making them to the original quality."

Packed seminar programme

Glee is set for a dynamic and future-focused seminar programme, designed to spark insight, drive profitability, and energise the garden retail sector...

Glee is set for a dynamic and future-focused seminar programme, designed to spark insight, drive profitability, and energise the garden retail sector.

This year’s content will be delivered across two specialist stages. The Hive will serve as the hub for all things garden retail, from leadership and sustainability to business strategy and future trends. Meanwhile, the Feed Your Business Stage, located in the newly launched Food @ Glee area, will take a deep dive into the commercial opportunities within catering, hospitality, foodservice and food retail as well as design.

Profit, purpose and the ‘Garden Centre of the Future’

From high-level strategy to hands-on innovation, Glee 2025 addresses the real challenges and opportunities facing today’s garden retailers. Central to the programme is the need to balance profit and purpose, and lead businesses into a new era defined by smarter operations, sustainable growth, and unforgettable customer experiences.

In one of the most unique and interactive sessions of the show, Michael Perry – better known as Mr Plant Geek – returns with his ever-popular ‘Future Plants’ insights. This year, he’ll take things a step further by hosting an exclusive walking tour of the show, giving participants the chance to meet the pioneering growers behind the next generation of plants set to transform UK garden centres.

In a flagship keynote, Pleydell Smithyman’s Paul Pleydell will unveil their visionary take on the “Garden Centre of the Future”, combining architectural creativity with real-world data to show how design can power everything from dwell time to footfall and spend.

In one of the most anticipated sessions of the show, Alan Roper, Managing Director of Blue Diamond Garden Centres, will offer a rare behind-the-scenes look at leadership in action. “An Industry Conversation” will explore his approach to retail transformation, culture, and staying ahead in a competitive and increasingly digital landscape.

Alan is inviting the industry to submit their questions ahead of the session in a unique opportunity to engage directly with one of the most influential voices in garden retail. Whether you’re curious about leadership strategies, business transformation, or the future of the sector, Alan wants to hear from you.

British Garden Centres will also take centre stage with “Buzzing with Innovation: Next Gen Leaders”, where Amy and Libby Stubbs present how the next generation is not just preserving a legacy but actively rewriting what success looks like in the modern retail era.

The HTA will also bring its invaluable market intelligence to The Hive stage, helping retailers decode the latest research, performance metrics and consumer trends in their session “Pollinating Insights”. With a clear focus on data-led decision making, this is a must-attend for anyone looking to build resilience and plan for the long term.

Other sessions explore technology, supply chain strategy, and sustainability as competitive levers, showcasing stories of garden centres that are not just surviving but thriving by placing environmental and ethical practices at the heart of their operations.

Feeding growth

On the Feed Your Business Stage, content is all about delivering ROI through food and catering. From expert-led sessions on menu engineering and kitchen design, to talks on food truck partnerships, the power of farm shops, technology-driven cooking methods, and the evolution of the high-street coffee model, attendees will walk away with actionable ideas to increase dwell time, margin, and customer loyalty.

Sessions from Brakes, Whitco, Debag, the Foodservice Equipment Association, Choice Marketing, Perrywood Garden Centres, Raemoir Garden Centre, Warbeck Garden Centre and others will equip businesses with the tools to make smarter decisions in layout, procurement, sustainability, and even menu insight, making Food @ Glee an essential destination for garden centres evolving their food and beverage offer.

Celebrating excellence

Finally, Glee has long recognised and celebrated creativity and innovation, and this year will be no different.  The Glee New Product Awards return as a major highlight, spotlighting the most exciting product launches and giving buyers a direct line to the next big thing.

New for 2025, GTN’s Greatest Food & Drink Garden Centre Team Awards joins the line-up, recognising the teams behind the UK's most successful catering offers. Categories will celebrate excellence in everything from afternoon tea to traybakes to customer service, shining a spotlight on the F&B teams helping redefine the garden centre experience.
