Westland says re-formulated products in its New Horizon growing media range, launched at Glee yesterday, represent an unprecedented breakthrough in peat replacement technology.
The company unveiled its BIO3 additive which, in combination with coir and the well-established wood-based West+ ingredient, have produced a growing medium whose appearance, texture and performance was enthusiastically received in consumer research.
The new range is the culmination of an 18-year research programme and £35m investment in a search for sustainable alternatives to peat with outstanding performance.
Westland says performance was the number one target during development. “BIO3 is the compost for the next generation,” said the company’s Simon Mcardle. “It combines wood, premium quality coir and bio fibre to deliver one of the highest quality composts on the market, that just so happens to be peat-free.”
The New Horizon BIO3 range includes All Plant Compost, All Veg Compost and Tomato Planter, all in eye-catching new packaging.
