Excitement mounts as Glee 2023 opens its doors tomorrow

The final touches are being put to Glee 2023 where an impressive list of suppliers will join with UK and international key decision makers, buyers and trend setters, to showcase the future of gardening.

The final touches are being put to Glee 2023 where an impressive list of suppliers will join with UK and international key decision makers, buyers and trend setters, to showcase the future of gardening.

The International Festival for Garden, Leisure and Pet will showcase the latest innovations from hundreds of garden industry suppliers in one convenient location.

As the 2023 show approaches, Event Director, Matthew Mein, outlines the show highlights and what attendees can expect from this year’s offering.

Looking for the latest innovations or core best sellers for the upcoming year? With ten dedicated product sectors, Glee is a must-attend event for any retail buyer.

Highlights for 2023

Buyers can peruse the freshest, most exciting brands and amazing new products, pick up inspiring garden retail insights and make the most of exceptional face-to-face trading, networking, and the growth of new ideas in this truly innovative industry.

We are thrilled that a brand-new exhibit, the Talent Store, will debut at Glee in 2023. This exciting live project in conjunction with the Garden Centre Association (GCA) and renowned horticultural influencer, Michael Perry (also known as Mr Plant Geek) and Deborah Flowerday will showcase emerging talents in the industry. Featuring inspiring indoor and outdoor plant displays from up-and-coming merchandisers from garden centres, the pop-up displays will demonstrate how various designs can be used to showcase products and trends in creative and eye-catching ways.

The Stage will once again host a raft of live presentations designed to help you improve and grow your business for the year ahead, with the theatre being the perfect place to relax and learn.  Visitors can gain valuable tips and tricks on how to market, sell and propel their business from industry experts TrendBible, the HTA and Michael Perry – this is a must-visit for attendees who can take away ideas and inspiration to help implement successful strategies in store.

Glee Green Heart will make a comeback in 2023, situated at the entrance of the show in the NEC's atrium area. Horticulture will be brought to the forefront with over 50 benches showcasing British and internationally grown plants.

The new area will be complemented by a fresh new exhibit, led by Glee Ambassador Michael Perry, that highlights Future Plants which won't be available for retail for another 18-24 months,

For the newest and most cutting-edge products at Glee, check out the New Product Showcase as your first port of call. This popular feature allows exhibitors to unveil brand-new innovations and products. All Glee exhibitors have the chance to win a coveted industry award, with winners chosen by a panel of experts based on criteria like innovation, design, promotion, and sales potential.

The Innovators Zone is a dedicated area specifically created for start-up companies to transform their pre-commercial product concepts into market-ready product releases. The Innovators Zone aims to nurture innovative grassroots product development and unique design ideas, whilst bridging the gap between market-ready new product launches from established companies and pre-commercial product ideas.

The Fire, Grill & Chill outdoor demonstration area will showcase a range of Outdoor Entertaining exhibitors who will demonstrate their products while serving mouth-watering food.

The AMES companies and the art of possible

The evolution of AMES continues apace at Glee 2023, where the business enters a new chapter under the banner of The AMES Companies, where the ‘art of possible’ is inspiring change, bringing innovation to the fore and opening up new sales opportunities through cross-category ordering.

The evolution of AMES continues apace at Glee 2023, where the business enters a new chapter under the banner of The AMES Companies, where the ‘art of possible’ is inspiring change, bringing innovation to the fore and opening up new sales opportunities through cross-category ordering.

This new name better reflects the company’s development and how the focus is shifting to the portfolio of brands that sit under the AMES banner. From heritage, tried and trusted brands such as Kelkay, La Hacienda and Apta to new introductions that will inevitably positively disrupt the market, the future for the AMES Companies is looking very bright.

Paul North, Managing Director of the AMES Companies, said: “Standing still has never been an option for us. Whether developing our existing brands and mapping out a long-term future for them or branching out into entirely new product categories, our vision has always been focused on our role as the supply partner of choice for our retailers.

“As we look ahead to the 2024 season, this vision is becoming a reality as we celebrate our legacy brands and expand our portfolio with introductions where we’ve identified a right to play. The developments we are making are never about newness for the sake of it. Instead, this is about bringing to market products and brands where a clear need, gap in the market or partnership has been recognised, and our combined skillset enables us to create something that will go above and beyond expectation.

Supporting this vision for growth, the AMES Companies has recently undertaken a £3 million investment plan. From transforming its Pollington site and fulfilling skill investment to securing maximum stock availability and launching unrivalled sales incentives, every aspect of the business has been assessed to ensure optimum performance season after season.

Don’t miss at Glee

It’ll be hard to miss the AMES Companies at Glee this year, as the complete 2024 offering will constitute the exhibition’s biggest stand in 2023. Taking centre stage in hall 6 (stand C40-F41), all brands under the AMES Companies banner – new and old – will be present with a guided walkthrough for all retailers.

Two exciting new chapters for garden retail will officially be unveiled, the first breathing life into one of the industry’s most popular volume sellers and the other celebrating material innovation where previous few operated.

Elsewhere, well-known brands, Kelkay, La Hacienda, and Apta will be joined by Woodshaw and EasyFountain to create the most comprehensive offering under one roof. No other single supplier can boast such impressive credentials. From aggregates and water features to outdoor heating and cooking, garden décor, and timber garden essentials, there is so much more to the AMES Companies family of brands than meets the eye.

Look out for garden centre exclusive designs, with special Glee incentives launching that are demonstrative of the company’s belief in what they are realising ahead of season 24. With extended payment terms rarely seen within this market, cross-category ordering and attractive MOVs, a single trip to the AMES Companies stand can almost complete the 2024 shopping list for most garden retailers. What’s more, with 100% stock availability and five-day delivery times promised for the coming season, there’s never been a better time to partner with the AMES Companies.

Every step of the stand will also showcase market-leading point of sale and supporting merchandising solutions created to the loudest within the retail environment. Informative, educational, inspirational and packing a punch in every space they occupy on the shop floor, these are new solutions that highlight the tangible point of difference that comes from not being scared to go back to the drawing board. Instead, by not following the crowd, retailers can – with help from the AMES Companies - access something that starts conversations, increases engagement, and helps consumers to feel more confident than ever in their purchase.

Don’t miss out

To find out more about the AMES Companies family of brands please the team on-stand at Glee 2023, hall 6, stand C40-F41, or visit https://ames-uk.com/

Investing in efficiency, quality and service as Altico scale for growth

Altico has emerged as a strong and credible contender in the Landscape product market, successfully gaining hundreds of Garden Centre stockists nationwide in just 24 months. As demand for their product offer grows, Decorative Aggregates remain core to the business strategy, and progressive action is being taken to scale for growth.

The two pictures above highlight the stark difference between the unwashed product (left) and pristine clean, washed results (right).

Investment in high-speed automatic bagging lines in 2022 has enabled the business to respond with immediacy to the increase in demand this season. But it’s the introduction of a new state-of-the-art Wash Plant that is showcasing Altico’s credibility as a notable supplier.

Speaking of the facility, Operations Director Barrie King said: “This is a substantial investment and step forward for the company. Capable of delivering outputs in excess of 5,000 tonnes per week, this impressive Plant has made us even more productive. We can now offer the highest levels of product consistency and quality possible, where the results speak for themselves.”

Since its introduction at the start of the 2023 season, Altico report that the Wash Plant’s ability to produce pristine Aggregates has yielded retail customers with immediate, comparable sales increases.

And whilst the Wash Plant proves its worth in returning growth, it allows the business to look to the future - customising their product offer and remaining flexible to trial new and unique Decorative Aggregates, to broaden their market offer.

Owner Antony Harker said: “We’re creating the conditions to enable the expansion of our business, not only focusing on the fundamentals, but the technologies and machinery to exceed expectations. In the last year we’ve made significant key investments that strive to make us operationally efficient, whilst delivering the best products, best service and best availability in the market place.

Whilst the level of investment is high in relation to the current size of Altico as it stands today, we have a long-term perspective, a willingness to take calculated risks and we’re optimistic about the Garden Centre Sector. Our strategy has been to scale for growth very early on to support our retail customers, give us the ability to future-proof the business and allow us to stay ahead of customer demand.”

Durston Garden Products Ltd will be out in force to showcase their outstanding collection of growing media products and highlight the benefits of buying from an established, family-run UK business. With two generations of the Durstons family on stand (20C02) at Glee, retailers can be sure of the personal touch.

With the seventh generation of the family now involved in the business, Durstons demonstrates how it is successfully bringing together decades of experience with the skills of a new generation to secure an exciting future.

On the stand at Glee this year will be fifth generation Chris Durston, who has been with the company since 1965 and Dan Durston, who celebrated his 25th anniversary earlier this year. Also representing the company on stand will be Nick Madgin, Ron Perry, Nick Bellett, Mark Rogers and Phillip Manns, along with Stephen Manns and Emma Grainger-Barbour.

Join Johnsons Lawn Seed’s mission to rewild the UK’s lawns as wildflower production ramps up

With the demand for rewilding continuing to rise, Johnsons Lawn Seed is going one step further by ramping up production of its native wildflower mixes, which will allow retailers to continue to bloom, year-after-year. Seeds are provided by third-party growers and mixed in-house for optimum customer and consumer needs.

Embarking on an extensive three-year business case testing, led by Wildflower Production Manager, Klaas Broersma, DLF UK has worked hard to meticulously cultivate various wildflower species and assess their adaptability, growth patterns, and yields to suit the UK’s lawns. With the insights gained from testing, they plan to increase cultivation and relocate back to its Inkberrow offices and warehouse on a 14-hectare arable farm for greater production capabilities in the area.

The result is Johnsons Country Wildflower Meadow mix, designed to create an eco-friendly wildflower meadow in the backyard or front lawn. The gorgeous mix of native wildflowers includes Birdsfoot Trefoil, Black Medick, Black Knapweed, Common Vetch, Meadow Buttercup, Oxeye Daisy, Ribwort Plantain, White Campion, White clover, Self Heal, Yarrow, Musk Mallow and Red Campion, are all highly popular with pollinating insects and look good in an urban setting too.

This was closely followed by the launch of Celebration Wildflower Tins last year, which contain 15 types of wildflowers that grow to different heights and at different times so over the course of a summer, gardeners will get an array of colours, blooms, scents and foliage covering up to 15 square metres.

Guy Jenkins, Consumer Manager at Johnsons Lawn Seed, said: Not only is it good to have wildflowers in your garden but, by producing them on-site at Inkberrow on such a scale, we are creating a fantastic environment for pollinators.

At Glee this year Sheffield-based Burgon & Ball, creator since 1730 of beautiful premium gardening tools and accessories, is unveiling RHS Growing Gardeners. It’s a new family gardening concept which builds on the passion for gardening together that families discovered during lockdown.

In an innovative step, the range of tools and accessories is backed by an online resource with family-friendly ideas, projects and inspiration from the trusted experts at the RHS, developed to make gardening with children easy and fun.

The new RHS Growing Gardeners range has been created with two distinct consumers in mind: the adult, as well as the child. The combination of knowledge and inspiration from the RHS for the parent or carer, with high-quality colourful tools and accessories for the child, makes this range a completely new concept, unlike anything that’s previously been available.

Designed for age range 5 – 12, the range has been developed to appeal to all kinds of families, living in all kinds of homes. Whether a family has a large outdoor space, or is looking for an indoor windowsill project, the RHS Growing Gardeners range will spark their imagination.

The range introduces a number of completely new and innovative ideas for the family gardening market. Link-a-Pot is a set of three plant pots with clear acrylic bases to show when the plant needs watering, helping families keep their plants healthy for a positive growing experience. The pots can be linked together to form chains and shapes, and linked with additional sets.

potting mat and tool bag is a handy way to store or transport tools. It unzips to form a 62 x 33cm potting pot, to keep tabletop or bench clean while gardening. Finally, there’s a couple of sets of colourful garden stakes, in a choice of flower or veg designs, to mark out the child’s special patch in the garden.

In tune with consumer expectations, the range has been created with sustainability front of mind, with recycled and recyclable materials; sustainable materials like bamboo; and recyclable card packaging.

Family gardening as a category works hard across both gardening and gift environments. With the support of the online resource, and with RRPs ranging from just £4.99 up to £22.99, there’s something here to help every family have a positive, successful and creative gardening experience together.

Garden Furniture experts, EKJU are launching a new Heavy-Duty range, designed to offer a long-lasting outdoor living solution. EKJU products always use the most durable timber from northern European forests, proven to be ideal for garden furniture. The new Heavy Duty Bench range provides the most robust bench yet, with chunky pressure treated FSC wood specially selected to last the test of time.

Outdoor dining in comfort

The Heavy-Duty range is designed to be used as an outdoor living dining solution, offering supreme comfort with robust seating with arm rests and a strong spacious table. The benches in the range can also be used independently, making the collection scalable to differing uses and situations.

The range includes a Triple Garden Bench, Double Garden Bench and a Single Garden Seat. A chunky dining table with 88mm thick legs completes the range, providing an ideal setting for al-fresco entertaining, enabling loved ones to enjoy family time outdoors together.

The Triple Garden Bench features a traditional design for a three-seater garden bench that measures 2m wide. It is an ideal product to site in a relaxing area of a front or back garden and as an addition to a dining table. The Heavy-Duty Double Garden Bench is 139cm wide and the perfect bench to site in a favourite spot to enjoy the garden with friends. The Single Garden Bench has a traditional single garden chair design which is ideally used as a seat as part of the set at the table end or a standalone garden chair in a peaceful location.

Garden furniture from the experts in timber

Being experts in timber processing, EKJU are obsessed with sustainability and quality with a carbon neutral operation. The Heavy-Duty range is constructed using FSC pine and spruce that grow in the northern European forests. This live wood is high quality and stronger due to its slow growth.

Before pressure treatment, the Heavy-Duty components are dried in a time-controlled environment to ensure a finished product with the correct moisture levels. This process prevents warping or bowing providing the end user with a more robust longer lasting product. With high standards of quality control, the collection is available in a choice of natural green or brown pressure treatment, all processed at EKJU’s production site.

EKJU are at Glee Birmingham, where you can try the new Heavy-Duty range for yourself! Speak to the EKJU team today to discuss the range at stand 6H40 – J41.

The GLEE trade show, offers retailers an exclusive look at the new collection, set to officially launch in stores in September 2023.

Nature Safe by Hygeia: Seaweed is at the heart of our range

The team at Nature Safe by Hygeia, who have been manufacturing garden care and agricultural products for over 80 years, are ready to unveil their NEW seaweed based garden care range.

The team at Nature Safe by Hygeia, who have been manufacturing garden care and agricultural products for over 80 years, are ready to unveil their NEW seaweed based garden care range.

The Nature Safe range, which is 100% natural, organic and plant based, includes lawn care and liquid plant feeds made from a combination of seaweed and plant-based nutrients.  In 2022 Nature Safe expanded their range into the natural pest repellants category with their popular Slug and Snail barrier and seaweed-based Plant Pest Defence.

We now bring our seaweed based formula into new product categories also demanding more natural and sustainable solutions.

John Byrne, CEO of Hygeia commented: “Our Nature Safe range is specifically designed to meet growing consumer demand for natural and sustainable garden care products. It makes perfect sense that consumers would want to now bring that same care inside, to use a natural feed for the plants in their homes, so closely located to them, their family and their pets. With gardening season now upon us, it’s time to shop those products that are great for your garden (and home!) but that are also kind to nature.

"One of the most prominent ingredients in the Nature Safe range is wild Atlantic Seaweed. Hand-harvested off the coast of Ireland, which ensures there is complete regrowth every 3 years, making it the most sustainable option for Nature Safe, using nature to nurture nature, enriching the soil and the plants that we grow and eat with seaweed’s natural micronutrients.“

All products in the Nature Safe range are plant-based and organic, making them completely safe for children, pets, pollinators and wildlife.  Be sure to pop by stand - Hall 8-20 6H30-J31 to tomorrow to find out what’s NEW.

Yorkshire Flowerpots will be exhibiting at Glee for the 28th year.  We are the UK’s only volume manufacturer of terracotta planters, producing over 200,00 pots per year.

We use specially selected clays from local quarries (located in Huddersfield), only 6 miles from our Barnsley production facility.

Although our Yorkshire Flowerpots are currently fired using natural gas, we are working in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University and have successfully secured funding to study the feasibility of a heat recovery project, which we hope will result in significant improvements to the efficiency of our kilns. In addition to this, we are also working collaboratively with industry partners in the ceramics sector to investigate the feasibility of switching to hydrogen has.

We are looking forward to welcoming existing and new customers to the Yorkshire Flowerpots stand in Hall 20 stand number A20-B21.

We have exclusive Glee deals available for visitors to our stand at the show. Don’t miss out – visit Yorkshire Flowerpots on stand A20-B21.

We look forward to seeing you during the show.

Primeur opportunities for sustainable garden retailers!

It’s almost time for the doors to open onto the UK’s most important gardening trade event and Primeur is raring to go with a host of sustainable solutions and a raft of brand-new product for the 2023 edition of Glee...

It’s almost time for the doors to open onto the UK’s most important gardening trade event and Primeur is raring to go with a host of sustainable solutions and a raft of brand-new product for the 2023 edition of Glee.

Long a pioneer in the field of affordable, eco-friendly products for home and garden, Primeur has an exciting new recycled material innovation to show its customers, alongside trend-focused extensions to multi-award-winning collections including Tierra Verde planters and Easy Tile flooring, produced from recycled rubber tyres.

Managing Director, Jenny Douthwaite says: “When Primeur started out on its eco-friendly journey in 2017 with the debut of our border and stepping stone ranges, the founding family – and every team member since then - knew we were in it for the long haul. Sustainability has never been a trend or box ticking exercise for us, it is built into the fabric of our business and every single product we bring to market.

“Now we are in the fortunate position of being naturally ‘on trend’, as more and more consumers start to examine the eco-friendly credentials of the products they buy for their homes and gardens.  We are very excited at the opportunity to introduce even more retailers to our sustainable product collections at Glee, and for our renewed focus on exceptional functional design to be seen in its full glory!”

This year’s Glee comes as Primeur enjoys a bumper 2023 season, with its multi-award-winning Tierra Verde planters, flexible ‘borders that bend’, non-slip decorative stepping-stones and lightweight decking tiles proving incredibly popular with consumers as Summer finally heats up

Visitors are warmly invited to visit Primeur’s stand to learn more about the sustainable product portfolio or see their multiple entries on the New Product Showcase in Hall 6.

Protek celebrates 40 years at Glee

This year Protek celebrates 40 years of trading and what better place to do it than Glee where they have exhibited for the last 24 years.

This year Protek celebrates 40 years of trading and what better place to do it than Glee where they have exhibited for the last 24 years!

The business was started in 1983 by Eric and Janet Thornborough, today it is run by their daughters, Becky and Harriet.  They, like their parents, have the same company vision to sell water-based paints that are easy to clean, good for the environment as well as long lasting and durable. All the paints are safe for children, pets, plants, birds and even bees.

The biggest change over the last 40 years is colour.  When Protek started there were only browns available, now there are over 100 colours to choose which will allow each garden to look as individual as its owner.

There are 6 paint and stain ranges to choose from with each offering a variety of different finishes and price points to match the budget available.

Their most versatile range is Wood Stain and Protect. This ‘does everything product’ can be used on wood, masonry, walls and planters including plastic and terracotta.  The finish allows the natural grain of the wood to be visible. There are 40 colours in this popular range including 4 NEW colours created to mark Protek’s 40 years of trading.   The range is very affordable with prices starting at £22.50 for 2.5Litres.

Visit stand 6B61 to find out more and how to become a stockist.

Red Gorilla: Best kept secret at Glee

Red Gorilla® may well be the best kept secret at Glee. Although you may not be familiar with the brand, in 1995, Red Gorilla® invented a product that changed the face of gardening. A product sold in near enough every garden centre in the country. That’s because they developed, manufactured and marketed the world’s first two handled, flexible tub. They named it the Tubtrug®, which you probably have heard of.

Since then, they’ve gone on to sell millions of units, worldwide, to an ever-expanding customer base, but always being sure to maintain a close eye on the quality and usability of their products. Now, nearly 30 years on, they have a whole host of other products for the home and garden, as well as other lines for equestrians and professional tradespeople, many of which they have created and brought to market themselves.

Red Gorilla® are also a true business to business business, with a wide range of merchandising and POS options, a wealth of marketing assets, and, above all, a focus on customer satisfaction and friendly service. Their ‘Stock Turn Guarantee’ allows you to buy with the confidence that if you’re not entirely satisfied, they’ll work with you to find ranges that suit you better, at their expense, and they also have bundled deals which they call Profit Packs®, which offer even better prices on their products when bought in standard quantities, and with carriage paid orders at only £250.00, it’s easier than ever to stock Red Gorilla® in your garden centre. Visit them at stand J64 in hall 20 of the Glee show and see for yourself whether you agree that the original is still the best…

Celebrating their 20th anniversary, Smart Garden are again at Glee (20G40-H41) with an extremely strong marketing package for 2024.

“Over 250 new products can be seen on our stand and that is without the next wave of exciting Christmas developments being launched later in the year,” said Paris Natar, Chairman of the Company.

“Next season is likely to be challenging with softer demand in a recessionary economy. In stark contrast to other major players, we were the ‘last in’ with delayed and very modest price increases during the pandemic and now we are the ‘first out’ of the Covid period with amazing price reductions that will keep our customers’ tills ringing irrespective of interest rates and inflation!”.

Smart’s new pricing is not being unveiled until their 2023-24 catalogue is published in the last week of July, in tandem with the re-opening of their Peterborough and Abingdon showrooms.

MD Jonathan Stobart added: “We are really looking forward to welcoming as many of our customers as possible onto our Glee stand. We are also encouraging them to book a showroom visit as soon as possible where we can roll out the red carpet and provide our undivided attention. We are determined to help all our customers optimise their 2024 sales and profits from our vast array of best-selling products and brands!”.

Award winning peat-free houseplant compost for a sustainable future

In the world of houseplants, finding the perfect compost that promotes healthy growth while remaining sustainable can be a daunting task. That's where Coco & Coir comes in—a groundbreaking brand that has revolutionized the market with its award-winning peat-free Houseplant Compost range. Not only does this innovative product support plant growth, but it also tackles a persistent issue faced by plant enthusiasts: fungus gnat infestations.

First and foremost, Coco & Coir is committed to sustainability. Peat, a common component in traditional compost, is extracted from delicate ecosystems, contributing and releasing harmful carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. In stark contrast, Coco & Coir's Houseplant Compost is completely peat-free.

So, how does Coco & Coir tackle the fungus gnat problem that often plagues indoor gardens? The secret lies in its carefully crafted coir formulation. Coir, derived from coconut husks, is the main ingredient of this exceptional compost range. The unique properties of coir enable it to retain moisture while maintaining excellent drainage, striking the perfect balance for healthy root development. By using coir as the base material, Coco & Coir ensures that your plants receive optimal hydration without succumbing to the damp conditions that attract fungus gnats.

This not only saves you from the frustration of dealing with gnat infestations or getting 1-star reviews but also protects the overall health and vitality of your beloved houseplants.

The benefits of Coco & Coir don't end there. This remarkable compost range is rich in organic matter and essential nutrients, providing your plants with the nourishment they need for robust growth. Additionally, Coco & Coir's commitment to sustainability extends to its packaging, which is designed using eco-friendly materials, ensuring a minimal ecological footprint.

What’s in store for 2024?

New products and market firsts are in store for 2024 as Vitax showcases new additions to its market-leading brands and organics range. Taking centre-stage will be Vitax’s new, nutrient-rich, organic feed – Vitax Organic All Purpose Pelleted Plant Food.

New products and market firsts are in store for 2024 as Vitax showcases new additions to its market-leading brands and organics range.

Taking centre-stage will be Vitax’s new, nutrient-rich, organic feed – Vitax Organic All Purpose Pelleted Plant Food.

Bursting with plant-based nutrients and minerals including potassium to help deliver bigger blooms and riper crops, magnesium to help produce chlorophyll so plants have more energy to grow, and phosphorus which is essential for overall plant health, the new feed has been formulated following the success of the liquid organic feed launched for 2022.

However, Vitax Organic All Purpose Pelleted Plant Food is not the only new product on display this year as Vitax expands its specialist, liquid feed range to empower consumers to help them make them choose the right feed for the right plant.

Mark Butler, national sales manager at Vitax, says: “It’s great to be back at Glee as we will not only be launching some very exciting new products for 2024, but also market firsts.

“Most of our new products are in response to customer demand. In recent years, the specialist feed range, and new organic liquid feed, have all been created following feedback from gardeners, customers and visitors to the event, and we are excited to follow that tradition with brand new products for 2024.

“Glee is the first opportunity for customers to see what we have in store for next season as well as enable us to showcase our existing, market-leading product lines.”

Sitting alongside new products for 2024, the stand will also be packed with products from Vitax’s ‘go to’ gardening brands, including Vitax Q4, Slug Gone, 6X, SBK and Nippon.

Vitax is looking forward to welcoming back visitors to the stand in Hall 20, Stand E40-F41.

Glee is the Gift for retailers this Summer

This year the focus will not just be on the great outdoors, as a brand new Home, Gift & Clothing sector is about to take shape on the exhibition floor...

This year the focus will not just be on the great outdoors, as a brand new Home, Gift & Clothing sector is about to take shape on the exhibition floor.

Whilst Glee has long hosted key exhibitors in these categories, the 2023 show will be the first time that such a strong focus has been placed upon gifting, homeware, fashion accessories and apparel. This is testament to garden centres’ success in extending their instore offerings, and also offers a significant opportunity for other retailers.

As the first trade exhibition taking place in the second half of the year, Glee offers a golden opportunity for gift shops to get ahead of the curve and secure orders before Christmas. Visitors will be able to source from top-flight suppliers offering products that range from candles, toys and crafting kits to greetings cards, giftwrap and stationery, whilst specialists in hats, scarves, gloves, boots and other winter woolies will help retailers get set for the festive season.

Meet the Exhibitors Some of the biggest names in the greetings card industry will showcase their latest collections and merchandise solutions at Glee, including UK Greetings, Woodmansterne Publications, Noel Tatt Group, Giftwrap UK and Museums & Galleries.

Joining them on the show floor will be fabulous British companies exhibiting a wide variety of gift and homeware product, much of which has a sustainable angle or is made here in the UK. These include The Candle Brand, The Crafty Kit Company, Playpress Toys, The Wheat Bag Company, Out of the Kiln (Pam Peters Designs), Alex Sharp Photography, Robert Frederick, Kushboo Soaps, Tilnar Art, New English Teas, Ivy & Twine Candles, Jarapa, Hippychick, Playmonster UK, Seedball, Art on Scarves, Victoria Eggs, Freckleface Designs, Rainbow Designs, Naked Shells, Brass Bee and Soake.

One of the new exhibitors in this sector, Christina Brand, founder of The Candle Brand, said: "We are a multi award winning company having won Gift of the Year in three categories, yet this will be our first Glee show. Our awards were won based on our plantable seeded labels on our candles and diffusers, as well as our flower fragrance diffusers. We are excited to be exhibiting at a show to connect with buyers for gift and garden centres.

"We will soon be launching a new selling concept for our pick and mix wax melts, where we will now be offering them unpackaged with POS as well as packaged. As well as our brand new product 'Scented Ceramics' for use in cars, wardrobes, and drawers. Glee will be the first physical show to have these exhibited and for sale. At the stand we will be giving away promotional bags which will include our brochures, as well as first order offers, existing customer offers and a free wax melt".

Also participating in Glee 2023 within the Home, Gift & Clothing sector are major overseas manufacturers such as Pantherella International Group, Maison Bel, Bachmann Europe, Fountasia, Biohort, Hellmann-Versand and Burstenhaus Redecker.

First come, first served!

With its late June exhibition dateline, Glee takes place at the prime time for pre-Christmas buying, enabling retailers to get an angle on the hottest seasonal trends and plan their merchandise ahead of the main trading period. Glee 2022 saw retailers come out in force to do their ‘Christmas shopping’ and this year’s Home, Gift & Clothing sector has grown as a result.

Glee Director, Matthew Mein comments: “Home, Gift & Clothing is an exciting new sector for Glee, and we’re thrilled that such an exceptional mix of companies will be joining us at this year’s show, many of them for the first time. As well as inspiring garden centres to further diversify into lucrative new categories, we also want to show traditional home and gift retailers how to integrate gardening into their lifestyle merchandise mix.

“Millions of British consumers are out in their gardens digging, planting up containers on balconies or cultivating houseplants. The upsurge of interest in nature and desire to be more sustainable is driving huge interest in certain sectors – pots and planters, gardening tools, outdoor clothing and seeds, for example – and we want to show gift and home retailers how they can benefit from these vital growth areas.

“Not only can buyers take steps to break new ground at Glee, but they can also stock up on the crucial staple products which will keep tills ringing in the run up to Christmas - whether it’s home fragrances or giftwrap, flower vases or gardening gloves, wall art or woolly socks, Glee is the show which addresses all angles of the consumer lifestyle shifts that are shaping retail.”

What’s driving outdoor living trends at Glee 2023

Summer is fast approaching and as homeowners around the UK start planning for social gatherings and alfresco dining, Glee - the International Festival for Garden, Leisure, and Pet will be embracing the outdoor living trend with ideas and inspiration for 2024...

Summer is fast approaching and as homeowners around the UK start planning for social gatherings and alfresco dining, Glee - the International Festival for Garden, Leisure, and Pet will be embracing the outdoor living trend with ideas and inspiration for 2024.

Taking place at the Birmingham NEC from the 27th to 29th of June, the halls at Glee will once again be home to exhibitors showcasing the latest designs in BBQs, inspirational furniture styles, and material and outdoor lifestyle influences within the dedicated Outdoor Entertaining sector.  Glee's late June timing is designed to offer significant benefits to buyers, with thousands of existing and new products exclusively launching at the show together providing the perfect opportunity for buyers to preview the latest collections and place orders for the upcoming gardening season.  With summer right around the corner, Glee is also the first opportunity within the 2023 buying calendar to source outdoor furniture, garden heaters, and decorative items or finalise top-up orders for immediate delivery into store.

The power of the outdoors

There is no doubt that the outdoor living movement has exploded recently as outdoor spaces have been embraced with new interests. Gardens have become, more than ever, a place to relax, escape, work, eat, exercise, and play.  Recent research by YouGov for the HTA (2021) revealed that nearly half of UK households (42%) use their gardens to entertain family or friends with garden parties and barbecues. The HTA also showed that sales in the outdoor living department at garden centres were 19.88% up in 2022 compared to 2021, indicating that this momentum is showing no signs of stopping.

Indoor and outdoor merged rooms

Furniture and accessories have blurred the lines between indoors and out, adding comfort and style by effectively creating zones while maintaining an open look and uninterrupted view of the garden and beyond.

Emotive design forms the foundations of Glee exhibitor Bizzotto’s brand philosophy and furniture collections. With a commitment to high quality, sustainability, and beauty, its three furniture brands, “Yes”, “Bizzotto Outdoor” and “Homemotion” will take centre stage. Tramontina has all retailers need to sell the stylish and versatile al fresco dining dream, from beautifully understated bistro sets to loungers which create individual and comfortable areas to relax in.  Hex Living will also be creating the perfect outdoor room with its contemporary garden furniture ranging from loungers to storage solutions.

Social hotspots

Fire pits, chimineas, log burners and patio heaters have proven to be the must-have garden accessory and that trend is set to continue into next year as people enjoy their gardens for longer. According to an Amazon survey, 32% of people plan to buy a fire pit in 2023, making it a popular outdoor cooking and heating appliance.

Pinnacle Agri is a newcomer to Glee and its showstopping product is the Firestorm Patio Heaters which use eco-friendly wood pellets to create a dazzling, smokeless flame within a glass tube, perfect for those that like the modern aesthetic. Fandango Products will be bringing back its safe and easy-to-use Kindling Cracker firewood splitters. They are also the UK distributor for Espegard's fire pans and accessories, which with their simple and functional design for warmth and cooking will win over fire pit lovers everywhere.

Al fresco dining

The overall barbecue and alfresco eating market in 2021 were worth just over £2.2 billion, with the UK hosting around 165 million barbecues in the same year. And with the cost-of-living crisis affecting many, garden dining and cooking remains a fashionable and cheaper alternative to a visit to the local pub or restaurant.   Campingaz has enhanced outdoor cooking experiences throughout the UK and beyond and will continue to inspire both retailers and consumers through its barbecue range at the show. Blackstone Europe will give retailers the opportunity to sell outdoor cooking experiences for large groups or families with its griddles and barbecue accessories. Elsewhere, household names such as Kamado Joe, Landmann and Primo Grills can all be found within Glee Outdoor Entertaining, featuring what the latest innovations from these market leaders.

Dudley-based Midtherm and Glee newcomers Gozney will also be bringing their ranges of pizza ovens to capitalise on the soar in popularity of outdoor cooking.

Garden Decor

Poppy Forge is bringing its British-designed and made garden products to the Outdoor Living sector including plant supports, arches, obelisks, garden art and boot care products.

Primus will be returning to the show to showcase its leading homeware, gifting, and garden décor brand. From its Wallace & Gromit sculpture range to wind chimes and hangers, outdoor clocks, and metal wall art they will offer customers garden decor with quality pieces that draw the eye and elevate an outdoor space.

Illuminated spaces

The craze for solar garden lights has seen consumers extend their garden time after the sun goes down. Solar lighting can enhance a garden or outdoor space, giving it a wonderful, cosy ambience as well as practical illumination for outdoor areas that need a lift.  Nordlux’s range of lights can be used beyond the garden to illuminate the front door, driveway, and garage, as well as balconies and terraces. Forum Lighting Solutions is one of the UK’s largest suppliers of lighting and radiant heaters are an energy-saving solution to keep the garden warm after dark.

Eco-Friendly

The sustainable garden industry has seen a huge boom - with more and more eco-savvy consumers opting for eco-friendly materials for their outdoor living accessories.  Dr Heat will showcase its eco-friendly firelighters produced exclusively from recycled candle wax and shredded Miscanthus grass, grown in the South West of England.  BCB’s International’s FireDragon - Eco-Friendly Fire Lighters, made from rotten vegetable matter, will appeal to fire and flame lovers who don’t want to harm the planet.

Matthew Mein, Event Director at Glee said: “Consumers are increasingly focusing on improving their outside spaces, with recent statistics supporting the growth of the outdoor living industry. Increasing choices, a newfound love of the garden and budget-friendly options made available by retailers are making outdoor entertainment more affordable and accessible for consumers. At Glee 2023 those exhibitors that make up the Outdoor Entertaining sector will together showcase the latest trends and products that will help to drive growth in the industry this year and beyond, whilst enabling buyers to better plan their buying and merchandising strategies ahead of the peak summer season.”

Let’s make this year’s Floral Thursday the biggest yet!

If you are visiting or exhibiting at Glee later this month, then this is your reminder to ensure you bring the flower power on Thursday 29th June.

Thursday at Glee is now more commonly known as Floral Thursday, a special day when the industry comes together to raise funds for the Greenfingers Charity by donning their best floral get-up. Whether it’s clashing floral brights, giant flowerpot men outfits or teams with the biggest contingent of floral suits, dresses, hats, shirts or t-shirts, each year Floral Thursday gains more and more traction. This year the charity is hoping that even more will arrive at the show in their floral best. In fact, the quest for the world record attempt at the most ‘floral dressed’ in one place continues – can you help make it a reality?

Upon arrival at Glee on Floral Thursday look out for the Greenfingers raffle ticket sellers in the atrium, where a host of top prizes are up for grabs. By digging deep, buying some raffle tickets or popping a few coins, digitally or otherwise, in the fundraising buckets you will not only help make this year’s event the best yet, but you will be contributing to another amazing year of fundraising for the charity.

For those not in the know, the Greenfingers Charity creates amazing therapeutic gardens at children’s hospices across the country. For the life-limited children this might be the only outside space they can truly relax in and enjoy, whilst for the families, friends and staff Greenfingers gardens can be a place for reflection, a place to hold memories dear or a place of relaxation away from the hustle and bustle of the inside work of the hospice. Again and again, these Greenfingers gardens – almost 70 in total – prove their worth by holding significant personal value for those that use and enjoy the space. These are garden spaces that see the best and worst days, where lasting memories are made, and where goodbyes are said. The money raised through initiatives such as Floral Thursday helps the charity to build even more gardens for those that need them the most.

Linda, Petrons, Director of Fundraising & Communications at Greenfingers said: “With even more gardens in the pipeline and the average build cost rocketing beyond £100,000, every penny that is raised makes a real difference. Unlike other fundraising events that may require a feat of endurance or bravery, Floral Thursday is a fun and colourful way for everyone to get involved.

“As always, our thanks go to the Glee team for allowing us to use their platform to make Floral Thursday a reality. Each year the event keeps getting bigger and better and that is thanks to the wonderful support of Glee and its partners including Garden Trade News.”

So, what are you waiting for? Open the wardrobe, nip to the shops or get online to find your most fabulous floral outfit. The Greenfingers team look forward to seeing you on June 29th.

To find out more about the charity, throughout the show, the Greenfingers team will be in Hall 8-20 6J72.

Glee partners with leading trade associations for Home Improvement Village at 2023 show

Glee has announced a partnership with the British Home Enhancement Trades Association (BHETA) and British Independent Retailers Association (Bira) at this year’s show, further strengthening its new DIY sector and creating a central hub for DIY suppliers looking to connect with garden retailers at the leading international exhibition.

The exciting development sees BHETA and Bira come on board to support the debut of a DIY sector at Glee, providing a platform for members to engage with their target audience, whilst giving retail buyers from right across the garden and home improvement industry direct access to innovative products and suppliers that can generate real sales growth.

In the absence of a national DIY trade show in the UK, the addition of a new DIY sector at Glee 2023 creates significant opportunities for DIY and hardware retailers to engage with suppliers and brands in an environment conducive to doing business. It also opens doors for garden retailers keen to explore a brand-new category that offers real growth potential, as BHETA members join the line-up of suppliers and brands showcasing their DIY ranges at the show. The partnership with these leading trade associations will expand the array of products available to visiting buyers, whilst drawing even more retailers through the doors and diversifying the show’s audience.

BHETA and Bira will host a dedicated village at the show, where existing and potential new members can secure facetime with both organisations, creating valuable networking opportunities.

Bira.co.uk Director of Membership & Marketing, John Halliday said of the partnership: “Bira is excited to return to Glee and support the reintroduction of hardware and DIY to the show’s wide range of sectors. There has been a lack of relevant events for these sectors in recent years and we’re pleased there is now a key event for hardware and DIY business owners to explore and source products and services specifically for them, as well as a place for Bira to engage with members and make new contacts from across the country.”

BHETA Sector Manager for DIY, Home Improvement and Garden, Keeley Vernon commented: “The BHETA team is excited to be working with Glee for the first time on a DIY sector in the BHETA Bira Village.

“Trade shows have a crucial part to play in the relationship between suppliers and retailers, and the Glee audience provides an excellent opportunity for DIY exhibitors. We are looking forward to a busy three days!”

Glee Director, Matthew Mein added: “Having Bira and BHETA on board strengthens our goals in developing this sector and adds real credibility. In addition to helping us promote Glee to their suppliers, this partnership will also enable Bira to reach out and encourage their large database of independent retailers to attend Glee. We have then worked with BHETA to communicate this opportunity to the DIY brands in their membership base to exhibit at Glee to improve their access to DIY retail and garden centre businesses. We have managed to book in a number of Bira suppliers and BHETA members for the show this week and have 12 exhibiting in our new DIY sector, which is a good start to build on, going forward. The great news is that there is already a good level of interest from members who will be visiting Glee 2023, with a view to exhibiting next year.”

Twelve candidates from this year’s Glee Talent Store have been selected to showcase their designs at Glee (May 2023). Clare Baker and Nathan Evans from Bents Garden & Home (pictured) are among the finalists.

They were selected from 24 garden centre staff members, who took part in a visual merchandising training day and submitted ideas for a pop-up store concept based on either houseplants or outdoor plants.

Matthew Mein, Event Director at Glee, said: “During a training day in March, the 24 individuals learnt all about visual merchandising from some of the very best, including Talent Store mentor, Debbie Flowerday, a Visual Merchandising Consultant, TrendBible’s Home & Interiors Trend Editor, Wendy Lowe and Michael Perry, aka Mr Plant Geek.

“They were then placed into groups and tasked to come up with a pop-up store concept and design based on houseplants or outdoor plants. These designs were submitted and we’re thrilled to announce that the following individuals have made it to the finals and will be showcasing their designs at Glee 2023.”

The finalists are:

Outdoor plants:

  • Louisa Power from Ongar Garden Centre – British Garden Centres
  • Amber Dowsett from Perrywood Garden Centre, Tiptree
  • Katherine Davies from Pugh’s Garden Village, Wenvoe
  • Nathan Evans from Bents Garden & Home
  • Damian Walker from Harrogate Garden Centre – British Garden Centres.

Houseplants:

  • Clare Forster from Braintree Garden Centre – British Garden Centres
  • Hazel Woodward from Millbrook Garden Centre, Staplehurst
  • Alison Smith from Chessington Garden Centre
  • Clare Baker from Bents Garden & Home

  • Wendy Jones from Pugh’s Garden Village, Wenvoe.

The finalist’s pop-up store designs will be showcased at Glee, which takes place at the NEC Birmingham from June 27 until 29, 2023.

Peter Burks, Chief Executive at the GCA, said: “Congratulations to everyone who took part in the Glee Talent Store and to those who have been selected to have their designs showcased at Glee. It is a fantastic achievement as Glee is one of the most important trading events in the gardening industry calendar.”

Every year hundreds of new products are entered into the highly coveted Glee New Product Showcase with just fifteen gaining triumph after a fiercely fought pitching process and judges’ deliberation.  Nine months have now passed since the 2022 winners were crowned; here Glee catches up with a some of those winners to find out how their latest trophy has impacted their business and what they have planned for Glee 2023.

2022 Glee New Product winner: Planters - Woodlodge

Woodlodge is one of the leading gardenware suppliers in the UK, and as consumers become more environmentally aware of what they buy and how they garden, there has been a boom in consumer demand for more sustainable products from their suppliers.

Garden Planter winners, Woodlodge, which scooped the win with its EcoMade planters made from 97% ocean-reclaimed material, reported an uplift in sales since launching at Glee and winning the New Product Award. Michael Wooldridge, Director at Woodlodge said: “Sales have picked up for EcoMade since the launch and we’re forecasting these to continue increasing as sustainability moves up the agenda for retailers.  It was fantastic to have the product recognised by the judges and we are delighted to win. The award showcases Woodlodge’s outstanding product development and our ability to tap into the consumers’ mindset and demands.”

Looking to Glee 2023 Michael added: “Being the main garden trade event of the year we feel it is important to exhibit at Glee every year to reach as many buyers as possible.  We will be launching our new catalogue at the June show which is full of new ideas that are exciting to retailers and consumers. Our range of products is our best yet, with innovation, trend-led pieces and sustainability continuing to stimulate ongoing interest and conversation in the industry. “

2022 Glee New Product winner: Garden Plants, Seeds & Bulbs – Golden Grove Nursery

With planters come plants and the 2022 Glee Garden Plants, Seeds & Bulbs Award went to Golden Grove Nursery with Cryptomeria jap. 'Kyara Gold’. Talking about the win, Golden Groves’ Roger Ward said: “The award was a great boost of moral to the management and staff at the nursery and it is good to have a plant in development appreciated by the industry. Someone quipped to me at the time - “Fancy a conifer winning a best plant in show” - so it gives some positive publicity to the plant group after some recent lacklustre coverage. The nursery also gains positive publicity and perhaps gives it greater credibility and introduction to new customers who perhaps are unaware of its products. These benefits take some time to reach fruition.”

Come June, Golden Grove will be returning to Glee’s plant hub – the Green Heart – it has been confirmed that the team will be showcasing not just the standard ranges but also new varieties and will be highlighting how their plants lock up carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and the work they have been doing to reduce their own carbon footprint.

2022 Glee New Product winner: Landscaping & Garden Buildings – Meadow View Stone

The value of credibility that a Glee New Product award can offer was noted by 2022 Landscaping & Garden Buildings winners, Meadow View Stone. Sarah Hill, MD at Meadow View Stone said: “Winning the award against some very strong competition gave all our team a huge morale boost.  In what is considered a very competitive product category, it gave the business greater credibility and further cemented the Company’s strength - as innovators within the decorative aggregate category.”

Sarah added: “We have always been great supporters of the industry event, so will once again be exhibiting our products and new collections alongside our many merchandising solutions.  We continually study trends, evaluate sales data and collaborate with customers and key industry influences to identify gaps in the market or our product range.  This is what drives our NPD along with new or improved operating solutions, some of which will be evident at Glee.

As a growing business we also recognise the need to be more sustainable and environmentally conscious, so Glee will be a platform to showcase the environmental benefits of some of our existing products, together with potentially new products and merchandising solutions, that improve or negate the impact on our environment.”

2022 Glee New Product winner: Garden leisure & Entertaining - Zest

Meadow View’s thoughts were echoed by Zest, which scooped the Garden Leisure & Entertaining award in 2022. “Not only is it motivational for the new product development and marketing teams, particularly because of all the hard work that is involved, a Glee New Product Award is a great asset for the sales team in driving next season’s business in terms of exposure and confidence.  An award attracts significant attention from the trade and is a great support when reaching out to garden centre buyers.  This is especially true in today’s uncertain times when a clear point of difference and peer group acknowledgement that a product is truly ‘on trend’ is a persuasive message for the garden trade,” said Zest’s Head of Commercial Development, Simon Davison.

Zest is confirmed to be exhibiting at Glee 2023 and will be taking a proactive approach to on trend product development, which reflects the massive changes in consumer attitudes and needs in terms of outdoor living and acknowledges consumers’ concerns for the future.   Simon explained: “The company’s natural advantages are its use of slow-grown timber sourced from FSC® certified forests (FSC®-C114990), combined with quality manufacturing methods and a handcrafted finish with an absolute focus on desirability, durability, and sustainability.  Over and above that, the design team is focusing on products that reflect current trends such as outdoor modular cooking, wellness, relaxation and being close to nature. Our design team are also focusing on the use of the garden all year round and late into the evenings as well as during the day, grow your own self-sufficiency, and easy access products”.

2022 Glee New Product winner: Growing Materials – Sipcam Home & Gift

Sipcam Home & Garden scooped its first Glee New Product award in 2022, topping the Growing Materials category with its Peat Free Compost Booster & Organic Superfood. Talking about the win Sipcam MD Matt Jones said: “Since the Glee award many customers have been impressed with the Organic Superfood concept, which provides a multi-action 6-in-1 booster for plants and an organic feed solution that reduces carbon footprint. With Organic Superfood in stock this month, it represents an exciting time for the Sipcam team, with the biggest product launch since ecofective® was introduced to the market in 2018.

The product has gained hundreds of stockists and we are continuing to invest in the range to ensure we are meeting the increasing demand.

“Winning the award created heightened extra reach for the launch of Organic Superfood, positioning it as a ‘must view’ proposition for garden care buyers. From a brand recognition perspective, winning such a prestigious category upheld the growing reputation of the ecofective® brand within the gardening industry, something that the Sipcam team have been working hard towards over the last five years.

“We would definitely encourage suppliers to enter the awards. Even being shortlisted offers a useful platform to highlight your product range… If you win, it’s not only an amazing feeling but is an game-changing springboard for a new product launch.”

Glee New Product winner: Best of British - Airflow

Celebrating British manufacturing, the Best of British award was awarded to Airflow in 2022 for its “Bertie” Christmas tree stand. Talking about the win Airflow’s Managing Director, Lionel Huish said: “We created our Christmas tree stand based on the feedback we received from British Christmas tree growers who were frustrated with the quality of tree stands that were available in the marketplace.  We worked tirelessly, over two years, to develop an innovative design and solution to the problem, thus felt entering Bertie into the New Product Awards at Glee was an ideal opportunity to present our British designed and manufactured product to a mass audience.

“The move by the Glee organisers to hold the exhibition in June suited us perfectly, as it was well timed for buyers looking to place orders for the winter season. By winning The Best of British Award at Glee, we saw an immediate increase in enquiries and sales, particularly from Garden Centres and Wholesalers. We even saw Bertie showcased on Glee TV.

“The process of entering The Glee New Product Award was extremely straightforward, as the form could be completed through Glee’s online portal. Having been shortlisted, at the exhibition, Managing Director, Lionel Huish was required to present a two minute “elevator pitch” which was a great chance to unveil our product, while also gaining feedback from industry experts. This led to a huge increase in footfall to our stand from buyers who had seen our presentation and were keen to learn more about Bertie.”

Here we find out more about why Green Heart should be on everyone’s to-do list this Glee (27th – 29th June, NEC Birmingham).

  1. Linked sales and cross-merchandising inspiration – Exhibitors within Green Heart always passionately use the area to demonstrate how to link sales and create successful cross-merchandising opportunities that can be quickly and easily implemented instore. This theme will be elevated within the all-new Talent Store, where exciting new talent from across the sector will be constructing live retail sets, each demonstrating how collaboration and fresh ideas can create a new way of merchandising indoor and outdoor plants within the retail environment. Meanwhile, Fire, Grill & Chill, Glee’s dedicated outdoor entertaining demonstration area, will be relocated to the front of the NEC near the Hall 6-8 and Hall 20 entrances, directly adjacent to Green Heart. This means even more traffic will pass by Green Heart, bringing with it new buyers and helping to forge new retail relationships.
  2. Learn more about the plants of the future – Join Glee’s new ambassador, Michael Perry as he showcases the plants of the future, drawing from the latest varieties launching at Green Heart ahead of the 23/24 season. Whether you’re looking to gather inspiration or want to launch new varieties, this will be a must-see for future-facing brands and retailers.
  3. See, smell & touch – Exhibiting within Green Heart provides growers with the opportunity to inspire plant buyers and retailers alike by allowing them the chance to get up close and personal with the plants themselves. From new varieties and bestselling blooms to exciting merchandising ideas, this thriving part of Glee is a must for growers, whilst for garden retailers it’s the perfect place to come if they want to step up their game when it comes to plant retailing. Additionally, Green Heart’s location within the NEC Atrium provides a unique ‘greenhouse’ setting, flooded with natural light to present plants at their best, plus with a choice of benches, growers can select the best option to suit their ranges.
  4. Optimise profit potential of seasonal plants now - With seasonal plants being more topical than ever, Green Heart represents an opportunity to not just showcase these high-impact lines but also enables retailers to place orders ahead of peak sales periods, safe in the knowledge that they’ll be prepped to meet consumer demand.
  5. Secure autumn sales – Glee’s late June timing provides the perfect platform for growers to showcase autumn varieties. Buyers will be looking out for ‘show only’ deals, to gain extra margin and impulse sales potential for autumn and beyond.
  6. New networking opportunities – This year, in a new move, Glee’s Green Heart exhibitors will benefit from a Key Buyers Day. A special networking reception will bring growers and plant buyers together, with growers able to provide a wish list of buyers they’d like to meet.
  7. View complementary products – Glee’s 400+ exhibitors and thousands of new product launches makes it the perfect place for growers to source new supply partners for collaborations and linked sales opportunities. For retailers, the opportunity to ‘shop’ all products needed to create the most comprehensive plant area is right there for the taking at Glee 2023, with everything from pots and planters, compost, fertilisers and tools all represented.

Still not sure? Let Will Blake from St Peter’s Garden Centre offer some more wise words. He said of Green Heart: “With plants being at the very core of the garden centre industry, it is incredibly important that they are showcased and centre at our biggest horticultural trade event of the year!”
